The Salt Solution: A Complete 9-Step Program to Help Reduce Salt, Increase Potassium and Dramatically Reduce the Risk of Salt

A Well-Written Eye-Opener of a Book
This is the most accessible of the books currently available on dangers to health of a high salt/sodium diet. Given that almost all of us eat this type of diet, this is also (to use a well-worn cliche) one of those books "everyone should read," and not just those who have high blood pressure. It is also one of those books I'm sure the food processing conglomerates and the salt industry would like to see out of print as soon as possible (note that it actually is out of print at this time, but I certainly hope a 2nd printing will be available soon).

A nut-shell description of the book is that:
(1) dietary salt/sodium in high amounts combined with dietary potassium in low amounts will, over time, gradually contribute to the onset of a number of diseases (heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, stomach cancer, osteoporosis, hypertension, and asthma)
(2) most people don't have a clue how much salt/sodium they're actually eating because roughly 80% of it is "hidden" in processed foods
(3) changing diet by decreasing salt/sodium (particularly processed foods) while increasing potassium (particularly fruits & vegetables) is an effective (and the safest) way to lower blood pressure and protect against the onset of these diseases

After reading this book, I immediately felt more optimistic about my health and my ability to control it. I also have a keener sense of what foods are surprisingly high in salt/sodium and are contributing to the western world's epidemic of obesity, high blood pressure, and disease. The authors' advice is compelling and difficult to refute. They build their case on the basis of studies published in reputable medical journals such as the Lancet and the New England Journal of Medicine. In particular, they suggest that one of the best ways to prevent and even reverse these diseases is to reduce salt/sodium in our diets while increasing the amount of natural foods we eat. I particularly like the idea that it's not necessary to go "cold turkey" on salt. Instead, some salt/sodium can be eaten BUT it must be balanced with potassium-rich foods. There are also tips and advice about smoothly adapting to a lower salt/sodium diet. By following them, I have lowered my blood pressure significantly, and have more energy than I've had in years, and an increased feeling of well-being. I had a physical exam last week and my doctor was VERY impressed with my health. A final comment is that you may want to get more than one copy of this book because, like me, you may find yourself wanting to give it to family and close friends. I've had 3 copies and have given all mine away. If you're serious about improving and preserving your health in a drug-free way, this is the book for you.

A look through time into a window of Texas history
Carefully researched and accessibly written by Stephen L. Moore (himself a sixth generation Texan whose genealogical roots go back to the very beginnings of the Texas Republic), Savage Frontier: Rangers, Riflemen, And Indian Wars In Texas: Volume 1, 1835-1837 is an exhaustively documented and absolutely fascinating study of the Texas Rangers prior to the Mexican war. A thorough and documented history of the Texas Rangers, the men who led them, and the battles they fought in a time when pioneer families were struggling just to survive, make a living for themselves and their families, and guard themselves against ever-present threats that ranged from hostile Native Americans to the Mexican government. A solid and fascinating look through time into a window of Texas history, Savage Frontier is enhanced with illustrations, maps, battle casualty lists, and extensive first-person narratives.

good for elementary ESL class
This book is good for a lesson on prepositions.
For the same purpose, I would also recommend "Bears in the Night" by Stan and Jan Berenstain and "Rosie's Walk" by Pat Hutchins.

Very useful review of arithmetic and its applications
I have found this book to be very easy to read. It really help me to refresh some of the basic concepts and understand how to do arithmetic in bases different than the decimal. I really liked the fact that it used what I already knew about arithmetic to teach me the new concepts. I highly recommend thls book. Plenty of exercises and nice introduction to statistics.

The Science And The Myth Of Melanin

Author: T. Owens Moore

Know yourself! Know your power!
Melanin is not just something that gives color to the skin it is used thoughout the body for everything from agility to eyesight. This book should be required reading for all afrocentric people. The way the book is written makes it very readable and understandable. This book has things in it that the majority population in america dosen't want you to know. for example:
A black body is physiologically much stronger than a white body.
There is a physiological basis in blacks being smarter, faster, and a more intelligent than whites. This book has made me ask the question if this is true than what else is true about blacks in the light of the significance of melanin. The author dosn't just tell you blacks are better he takes you step by step through the reasoning and it actually makes sense.

The Dating Game
I would love to track down a copy of this book. Unfortunately, I can't wait 6 weeks.

I just saw an old rerun of the dating game and Trevor was one of the Bachelors. This dude had me laughing outloud. His humor was so quick and went so far over the bachelorette's head that she seemed scared. Hee hee. I loved the line about Michael Jackson and Anne Heche.

Great Book, needs a better proof-reader
This book is great!! The only problem is the proof-reader dropped the ball. The story is very complex and the person who is responsible for little things like: spelling and making sure the right name stays with the right character blew it. I find it frustrating to have to reread a page because the name was wrong. The book itself and the story idea are great. Mr. Moore has several good story ideas going at the same time. Yet he makes it all work. If you enjoy complex stories this book is for you.
